Kalamazoo MI – Expert addresses Nepalese economic reform

The Program
An authority on the Asian nation of Nepal and its economic reform efforts is coming to Western Michigan University to deliver a lecture next month.

Mr. Krishna Gyawali is joint secretary of the government of Nepal and the head of the Economic Affairs and Policy Analysis Division of the Ministry of Finance. He is currently a Humphrey Fellow at Michigan State University. He will discuss "The Political Economy of Reform in Nepal" from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, in Room 3301 of Friedmann Hall. The evening will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Gyawali is in charge of providing inputs for improved macroeconomic policy and management. He also serves as a liaison to the Nepal Rastra Bank and other commercial banks and institutions. During his Humphrey year, he hopes to study emerging issues in economic development, especially the merger of good macroeconomics with larger concerns of inclusive governance, social justice and equity.

Mr. Gyawali's talk is presented by the WMU Department of Political Science's Institute of Government and Politics and co-sponsored by the Haworth College of Business and the International Politics Forum.
